“There is no cure for birth and death, save to enjoy the interval”.
Today is George Santayana’s birthday. He was born in 1863. A lifelong Spanish citizen, Santayana was raised and educated in the
United States, wrote in English and is generally considered an American
man of letters, even though, of his nearly 89 years, he spent only 39 in the
U.S. He is perhaps best known as an aphorist, and for the oft-misquoted
Remark.
It is also Noel Coward’s birthday. He was born in 1899 and was
an Academy Award winning English actor, playwright, and composer
of popular music. Much to my surprise I only have one Noel Coward quote in “SNAPPY SAYINGS” on page 27 “Work is much more fun than fun”
